THE CHALLENGE- Wild Mustangs of Colorado

The inspiration for this piece of art was the iconic vision of freedom, resilience, endurance, and personal grit for survival they represented in my own upbringing. Their sense of family, love, intelligence and loyalty are teachers for us all to aspire to.
The Wild Mustangs of Colorado range around Craig and Telluride. They have become the Folk Hero of our old Western spirit of freedom and Cultural Strength. Originally the Spanish explorers brought them up through South America in the 1500s. Through them hunting and migration patterns changed. The gold rush was supported. The mail system, Pony Express, from San Francesco to Mississippi was established. Wealth and trading contracts were culturally created. Boundaries were changed. Wars were won, the Painted Pony legends. Movies were created around our iconic mustangs. They have become America’s much needed last trace of the Old West. Today most of the wild herds are contained on BLM and Native Indian reservations. Wild Mustangs and Burros can be adopted through the Bureau of Land Management or Forest Service. The Mustangs are a vital piece of our countries history that needs to be protected, remembered, and respected. God bless this vital piece of our American culture.
