THE GRACE OF THE DOLPHIN HOUSE-CHILDREN NEED TO BE LISTENED TO

As a teacher of thirty years, I had the privilege of being a confidant to many students in crisis. Drawing on my own childhood experiences, I was often able to offer understanding, comfort and guidance to those who have suffered abuse. The remarkable and passionate work done by the Dolphin House reflects the same spirit of care and support that I sought to provide throughout my career. The compassion of the Dolphin House staff deeply moved me, inspiring me to create this sign in their honor.
Through the church, I found a wonderful family, Ellen and Sonny Mattson. I learned safety, and most of all, that there is a world out there without abuse. Becoming a teacher gave me the opportunity not only to identify the symptoms of abuse, but to earn trust and ability to guide, direct and help them through the formidable years. Teaching in a target area for 30 years gave me the opportunity and purpose I was looking for. My own personal experiences coupled with the gift of being able to reach others through my own personal experiences, has presented me with the opportunity to recognize, listen, and protect others in recurring situations.
My grandson, Levi Buchanan, who loves all creatures large and small, at the age of twelve, already has his own passionate legacy. He is a natural protector for his peers, the young, sick, and old. He cares for the environment, animals and the universe. Levi’s artistic ability and depth of caring show in every wave in this carving. God bless the grace of the Levi’s in today’s world.
Levi and I donate and dedicate this piece of art to the town of Montrose’s Dolphin House, through Kay Alexander, who saw the value of my art and I her passion for children, and the incredible continuous work and staff of Dolphin House.
